Shrews’ Matt Harrold sets sights on a double
Thursday 15th July 2010, 11:15AM BST.
New Shrewsbury Town striker Matt Harrold has set his sights on completing a League Two promotion double at the Greenhous Meadow.
The 25-year-old has signed a on a two-year contract from Wycombe and was part of the Chairboys squad which sealed promotion from League Two in 2008-9.
And Harrold is hoping to repeat the feat with Shrewsbury after electing to move to Shropshire – despite holding talks with host of clubs in England and having an offer from Swedish second tier side Orgryte.
“It’s been a long old summer and I have spoken to a lot of clubs – mostly in League Two and a couple in League One,” said Harrold, who was out of contract at Wycombe.
“It was really important I made the right decision because I’m coming to the stage of my career where I really want to push on.
“I’ve been very impressed with the ambition of the manager and the club and hopefully we can be challenging for promotion.
“I’ve spent most of my career playing in League One and any footballer wants to play at the highest possible level.”

Harrold, who scored at Shrewsbury in Wycombe’s 1-0 victory at what was then the Prostar Stadium in 2008, has outlined the recipe for success which saw Wycombe win promotion just over 12 months ago.
“It’s a very competitive League and difficult to get out but if you stick together, that is half the battle,” he added. “Obviously I have come here to score goals and I think I have other things to offer as well.
“But the most important thing is that the team is winning games.”
Shrewsbury’s reserve team have moved leagues and will now compete in the totesport.com West Division.
They have agreed to move from the central division after a request from league officials after Nottingham Forest applied to join the second string set-up.
Amongst Shrewsbury’s opponents in the new division are Wrexham, Tranmere and Preston.
