Matt Sadler has high hopes for Shrewsbury Town stint

New recruit Mat Sadler has admitted he hopes to put himself “back on the footballing radar” during his stint at Shrewsbury Town.

The 25-year-old left back signed on a six-month loan deal from Watford yesterday and will train with his new team-mates for the second time today.

Sadler has had a taste of the big time having made Premier League appearances for his first club Birmingham.

And after a barren couple of years, Sadler has a hunger to rebuild his career to that peak, starting with a successful spell at the Greenhous Meadow.

“The big attraction for me was the chance to play regular first-team football,” said Sadler, who is based in Solihull and has signed an initial deal until January.

“It’s all about helping Shrewsbury be as successful as possible, proving myself and getting back on the football radar.

“I’ve gone off that radar for the last couple of years and I take full responsibility for that.

“But I’m also going to take full responsibility now for re-establishing myself as a player and proving myself.”

Sadler admitted he had been impressed with what he had seen during his first 24 hours at Shrewsbury.

“I first heard about the interest last week and thought about it over the weekend,” he added.

“The set up is excellent, there is a real professionalism about the place and the work ethic during training yesterday was fantastic.”

Vacated

Sadler has already set his sights on the left back berth vacated by last season’s loanee Joe Skarz.

“I can play centre half but I don’t think the manager has brought me in with that in mind and left back is my preferred position,” he added.

Meanwhile, Town target Mark Bradley has signed for Rotherham.

Boss Graham Turner confirmed earlier in the week that he had held talks with the former Walsall man who played over 100 games for the Saddlers and was capped by Wales in May.

But Rotherham have won the race for the 22-year-old midfielder who has signed a two-year-deal with last season’s losing play-off finalists.
