Teenagers set for crucial Minor Counties cricket clash

“I think in three-day cricket you need two spinners so Elliott gets his chance,” said Foster.

“He took over 40 wickets for Shrewsbury in the Birmingham League premier division last season and has played a lot of senior cricket.

“Ryan has done very well at Bridgnorth since he moved from Ludlow in the winter and is showing a lot of promise.

“Terry O’Connor (Shropshire cricket co-ordinator) speaks very highly of him after watching him play for the county under-17 side so he will get bat at No 6.”

In the absence of Alex Huxley, Will Parton is expected to open the batting along with skipper Foster.

Shropshire enter the game with a one point lead over the chasing pack.

And Foster is aware of the importance of a victory against an Oxfordshire side who have lost one and drawn the other so far this season.

“It’s almost a game we have to win because we have got three very tough games to come against Cornwall, Berkshire and Cheshire,” he added.

“If we are serious about trying to finish in the top three this season, it’s important we get a win from this.”

l Quatt are back on the Lord’s trail as they prepare for the national stages of the npower Village Cup.

They host Northamptonshire side Geddington in the last 32 of the 40-overs competition tomorrow (1pm).

“We would love to take it on further but the games are so tight and tough at this stage,” said club captain Adrian Evans.
