Skarz return to Town is unlikely
Monday 28th June 2010, 1:40PM BST.
Shrewsbury Town boss Graham Turner is closing in on his second new signing of the summer – but it is looking increasingly unlikely Joe Skarz will return.
Turner last week indicated he would be keen on bringing left-back Skarz back to the Greenhous Meadow after his loan spell from Huddersfield last season.
Huddersfield have made the 20-year-old available for transfer but Turner said: “It’s not looking likely we will take Joe Skarz.
“We have not been able to reach an agreement with his agent and it looks like he may be signing for another club.”
It is understood Town’s League Two rivals Bury are also interested in recruiting Skarz.
Danger
But Turner is hopeful of completing the formalities on what is expected to be a season-long loan signing in the next few days.
“We have an agreement with one player but we won’t announce anything until the ink is dry,” added the Town boss.
“If you announce things prematurely, there is always a danger of another club coming in to try and sign your target.
“Hopefully we can get that one tied up in the next 48 hours.”
Turner is also expecting to announce the identity of his backroom team before Shrewsbury return for pre-season training on Thursday.
Mike Jackson, who retired from playing duties for Town in January following a long-standing knee injury, has already been assured of a role as coach.
