England manager Fabio Capello’s future remains uncertain after the FA said it needed two weeks to assess the Italian’s future.

At a news conference this afternoon Capello, 64, reiterated his commitment to the job and said he wanted to stay on as England manager despite the team’s disappointing World Cup campaign. He said: “I want to stay.

“I spoke this morning with Dave Richards, he told me that he needed two weeks to decide. I said I can be the next manager for the next season, but we have to decide.

“We spoke about younger players that we can play for the next qualification and I know what I have to do.”

When asked if he found any of the England players difficult to deal with Capello replied: “Absolutely not.”

Players

He said: “The players here were happy. We tried to do everything to our best. When I chose the players I had followed all the players for a long time and I decided on the best players.”

He added that he felt the Premier League should introduce a winter break to help England at future tournaments.

He said: “I think all the players are really tired at this competition. I spoke with the coaches and all the coaches told me that the physical situation and the mental situation of the players was not like the players that we know.”

Sacking Capello would cost the FA a reported £12 million after it removed a break clause from his £5m-a-year contract on the day the team flew to South Africa.

The FA’s director of communications Adrian Bevington said: “Fabio is under contract with the FA until the 2012 European Championships and nothing has changed on that. But everybody is disappointed that we’ve gone out of the World Cup. It makes perfect sense to go back to London and take stock of the situation.

Why ask people to leave a reply and never have any intention of using them?

That’s like Capello picking 23 players and never using the subs! Oh yes that’s what he did in the world cup, silly me!
