Sinton looking towards Martin Naylor
Thursday 24th June 2010, 2:50PM BST.
AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton is running the rule over former Buck Martin Naylor.
The experienced defender, brother of Celtic defender Lee, was at Telford’s first pre-season training session on Tuesday night.
And he is expected to have further chance to impress – and potentially earn a deal – in the coming week.
Former TNS man Naylor has had two previous spells at the New Bucks Head – one in the mid 1990s and the other in 2008-9 under Rob Smith – and spent last season with Rhyl.
“Martin was there on Tuesday night,” said Sinton.
“He’s just training with us and no promises have been made.
“We will have a look at a number of players and take it from there.”
Meanwhile, Sinton is hoping to learn if attacking midfielder Phil Trainer will commit his future to the club in the next 48 hours.
“We want to keep Phil and I spoke to him on Tuesday night and then again yesterday,” added Sinton.
Positive
“He’s been made an offer and is mulling it over so hopefully we will get a positive response.”
Talks are continuing with Sunderland-based forward Steve Thompson, while Danny Edwards and Adam Dugdale are both hoping to impress in the early weeks of pre-season to earn a new deal.
Meanwhile, Sinton revealed he was delighted with his first training session in charge on Tuesday night.
“I was very pleased,” he added. “We have had a good response from the lads so long may that continue.
“There are one or two lads still away this week because we have come back early but we will really step things up next week.”

Not good enough last time, doubt he has improved. Another season of mid-table obscurity awaits……..

Really not inspired by the signings so far and players we are linked to. Think we will see crowds drop and I may head back to the Meadow.
