England through to World Cup last 16
Wednesday 23rd June 2010, 4:50PM BST.
England booked their place in the last 16 of the World Cup with a final group match 1-0 victory over Slovenia in Port Elizabeth.
Having disappointed in their games against USA and Algeria, the Group C favourites saw off the smallest nation in the competition.
A first half goal from Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe was enough for Fabio Capello’s men.
They finished second in the group after the USA’s late victory over Algeria secured the Americans’ first place.
