Wolves sign Steven Mouyokolo

Wolves today completed the first half of a £5.5m double swoop on Hull by signing defender Steven Mouyokolo.

The £2.5m-rated 23-year-old centre-back has signed a four-year contract with an option for a further 12 months.

Wolves expect to complete the second half of the double raid on the cash-strapped Tigers with the immiment arrival of £3m winger Stephen Hunt.

The Express & Star reported on Wednesday that Mouyokolo had chosen Wolves ahead of Stoke in a deal worth £2.5m. Now they have moved closer to securing Hunt for a knockdown price, believed to be £3m.

France-born Mouyokolo played 21 times in the Tigers’ relegation season after arriving from US Boulogne this time last year.

The arrival of Mouyokolo and Hunt will take manager Mick McCarthy’s summer signings to four with £2.5m Jelle van Damme and £7m Steven Fletcher.

And there is expected to be at least one more signing in addition to a possible swoop for Chelsea’s Michael Mancienne, with Nantes’ powerful Senegal midfielder Guirane N’Daw still on Wolves’ radar after Albion withdrew their interest.

Wolves have been working for some time on agreeing a fee with Hull for Hunt, who is still in rehabilitation from his broken foot and not expected to be fit until after the start of the season.

His signing will end a six-month chase for the former Reading man, who will be in familiar company at Molineux.

The 28-year-old is married to the cousin of Wolves striker Kevin Doyle and knows Marcus Hahnemann from their time at Reading, as well as Andy Keogh and Kevin Foley from the Ireland set-up.

Hunt will provide competition in the wide left position occupied by Matt Jarvis last season, but, with Michael Kightly striving for full fitness, the right-footed Ireland international can play on the opposite flank too.
