World Cup winning legend Gordon Banks has tipped Shropshire’s Joe Hart to be England’s No 1 – but not yet.

Former England ace and Telford United manager Banks holds Hart in high regard after an impressive season on loan at Birmingham.

The ex-Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper is involved in a three-way tussle with David James and Robert Green for the starting berth in England’s opener against America on Saturday night.

And, while Banks expects Fabio Capello to plump for the most experienced option in James, he believes Hart has a massive role to play in England’s future.

“Joe Hart has been the most consistent all season at Birmingham City but unfortunately for him he has little experience of playing international football and none of playing in a World Cup,” said Banks..

“To put someone in like that would be a bit of a risk and he could just freeze but he’s certainly the one who will be playing regularly for England soon.”

Meanwhile, FIFA have denied reports that a list of English profanities has been distributed to World Cup referees in a bid to stamp out dissent.

The Brazilian match officials who will take charge of England’s World Cup opener against the United States say they have taken a crash course in English so they can punish players who verbally abuse them.

Referee Carlos Simon and his two assistants, Altemir Hausmann and Roberto Braatz, have learned 20 swear words ahead of Saturday’s match, but FIFA insist it is not something they have had any role to play in.

A FIFA spokeswoman said: “No such list has been distributed to the referees.”

Assistant referee Hausmann has said: “We have to learn what kind of words the players say. All players swear and we know we will hear a few.”

“We can’t do this in 11 different languages but at least we have to know the swear words in English.”
