Stuart Whitehead and Carl Rodgers sign cut price deals
Wednesday 9th June 2010, 11:28AM BST.
Club captain Stuart Whitehead and midfielder Carl Rodgers today became the latest AFC Telford United players to commit their futures to the club.
Whitehead and Rodgers have both agreed one-year contracts after holding further talks with manager Andy Sinton.
Supporters’ player of the year Liam Blakeman was also offered a new deal by the Bucks boss after holding talks last night.
He also has an offer on the table from a Blue Square Premier club, but Telford remain confident that he will stay.
“Carl has agreed to stay and we’ll get the paperwork done over the next few days,” chairman Lee Carter revealed.
“I believe Stuart Whitehead has agreed a deal to stay at the club as well.
“It’s important to say that most of these lads desperately want to stay and play for this football club and are doing so in some cases on 30 to 40 per cent less money than they were on last year. That is a credit to them.”
Carter admits they are eager to keep Blakeman, especially after losing former Wolves man Kevin O’Connor to Worcester City yesterday.
“We need to keep a ball-playing midfielder so we’re very keen to hold onto Liam,” he said. “We’ve made him a good offer and we’re confident.”
Meanwhile, Sinton continues to work on bringing new signings to the club and expects to have at least one recruit on board before the weekend.
He will also aim to thrash out a deal with midfielder Phil Trainer when the player returns from holiday, with the remaining members of last season’s squad having to prove their worth when pre-season training begins at the end of the month.

This is great news for club and fans alike. The team is now:
Young
Wooliscroft, Whitehead, Killock, Newton
Durrell, Rodgers, Adams, Trainer
DCB, Brown
Who would have anticipated this team when Rob Smith and Larry Chambers were sacked? The expression “careful what you wish for” really rings true….

so we’ve signed durrel then ???
‘Durrell, Rodgers, Adams, Trainer’

Bucks Fan (I HAVE TO LAUGH AT THAT USERNAME) –
No such thing as making judgements after some real football has been played, eh?

In response to Frank (#3)
I’ve seen enough football from failed captain Whitehead over the last 18 months to realise that he is totally past it. His legs have gone. He was responsible for many defeats last season despite only playing around 20 league games.
Wake up and smell the coffee. We’re in serious decline.

You have criticised pretty much everything that the new manager has done (including his appointment), yet the team have not even kicked a ball. How on earth can you justify this constant charachter assasination and public flogging of the club?
Have you ever thought it is you that needs to wake up and smell the coffee? My guess is it will take something far stronger to snap you out of your permanent morbid state.

Frank, I have not criticised the appointment of Sinton. You have invented that. You have invented the character assassination and the public flogging of the club. I have said nor done any of these things.
Obviously, you’re being hyper protective of the club and fail to see points made by fans who do not agree with you or the club.

Bucks Fan,
So you didn’t make the following comment below the story on the new managers appointment:
“A very poor appointment that smacks of desperation. I’m convinced that he’s been appointed as a known face/name for Trust & community reasons rather than to achieve success on the pitch. Perhaps Trust board egos have come into play with this?”
You do not class the folloiwng comment about Stuart Whitehead as an assasination of his charachter?
“I’ve seen enough football from FAILED captain Whitehead over the last 18 months to realise that he is TOTALLY PAST IT.”
No wonder Telford struggle to achieve when they have fans like you spouting off every time soemthing isn’t to your liking.
And the old “Many fans think the same” rubbish doesn’t wash. Many fans are just happy to make judgements once the real football is underway.

Oh dear, Frank. The comments I have made are opinions. If you choose to label them as “criticisms” and “character assassinations” , then so be it.
I stand by the comments about the appointment of Sinton. They are my opinion and not a criticism.
My views on Whitehead are my assessment of his footballing ability, not an assassination of his character.
Don’t you like people having different opinions to yourself, Frank? You’re just another club brown-noser who can’t handle real comments by real fans.

So in #6 you say you did not criticise the appointment of the new man and then claim that the comment “a very poor appointment that smacks of desperation” is your opinion and not a criticism.
Ok, but it is an expression of disapproval, and one of many that you appear to take great delight in peddling.
I’m most definately not a club brown-noser, I just believe that any new boss and team should be judged on performances next season. What do you have? 8 or 9 players retained from last year? and probably a few new faces to follow. Why not look forward to that rather than throw various pelters at the club manager and players.
As I read your comments it doesn’t really matter who runs, manages or plays for your club you just want to moan/ express a negative opinion or whatever it is your want to call it. Just what exactly do you get, or want to achieve out of this??

Having seen the “delights” of Rodgers and Trainer last season, i cant wait till the new season starts, Rodgers was not on a contract last season was poor yet is rewarded this season by a manager who has not seen him play, he may live to regret that.
