Shropshire cricketers on Wiltshire weather watch
Monday 7th June 2010, 11:29AM BST.
Shropshire’s cricketers were today hoping the weather doesn’t ruin their brilliant start to the Minor Counties Championship season.
Ed Foster’s side overpowered Wiltshire on day one of their first three-day game of the season. The visitors reached 393-4 by close at South Wilts last night having dismissed the home side for 117 inside the first session.
Shropshire had the option of batting for a further nine overs each team is allocated a maximum of 90 in the first innings when play was due to resume this morning.
But with rain forecast for both later today and tomorrow, Foster declared immediately and with Shropshire leading by 276, an innings victory was possible.
Stars of the opening day with the ball were Andy Gray and Steve Taylor who took four and three wickets respectively, while Foster and professional Chris Murtagh both led with example with centuries with the bat.
