Graham Turner has ended his long association with Hereford United – increasing speculation of a return to Shrewsbury Town.

Turner, who has filled the roles of manager and chairman, officially left Edgar Street yesterday when the sale of the shares owned by the 62-year-old and vice-chairman Joan Fennesy were confirmed.

Turner has long been linked with being a potential successor to Paul Simpson at Shrewsbury, a club where he made his name as a player and manager in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Greenhous Meadow officials are confident of naming the successful candidate within the next 10 days.

Former Hereford United player David Keyte is the new Hereford chairman, with broadcaster Tim Russon vice-chairman.

As well as playing for Hereford reserves and Westfields during the 1970s, Keyte was also a good club cricketer.

He was an opening batsman and wicketkeeper for Hereford City Sports Club during one of their most successful eras and also turned out for Worcestershire 2nd Xl.

He has recently revived the fortunes of Bredon School, near Tewkesbury, where he became principal in 2005 after originally joining the establishment as general manager.

He is due to retire from the school later this year.

Keyte and Russon will be taking over from Turner and former company secretary Joan Fennessy, who will stay on for a short period to ensure a smooth handover.

Meanwhile, former Shrewsbury Town pair Marc Pugh and Michael Symes have completed their moves to Bournemouth, who will be plying their trade in League One next season after promotion.

Can’t believe all this hype, if it is turner I won’t be very happy. There r loads more better suited than him. Cotterill is by far the obvious choice

Cotterill is off to Pompey so no chance. Turner will stabilise the club and give it the chance to take off.
