Joe Skarz wants new Shrewsbury Town chance
Friday 4th June 2010, 12:20PM BST.
Former loanee Joe Skarz has issued a come-and-get-me plea to Shrewsbury Town, declaring: “I would love to be back next season.”
Left-back Skarz was one of Town’s most consistent performers in a disappointing second half to the 2009-10 campaign, making 20 starts after signing on a temporary deal from Huddersfield in January.
He returned to the League One play-off semi-finalists when his loan expired at the end of the season, but has since been told by Huddersfield boss Lee Clark that he is available for transfer.
And Skarz, who has 12 months left on his current deal, is hoping a permanent move to Shrewsbury remains a possibility when their long hunt for a new manager draws to a conclusion.
“Huddersfield have said to me and seven others that we are available for transfer,” said the 20-year-old.
“It’s no secret I loved my time at Shrewsbury and I would be very interested in talking about next season.
“I had a little bit of contact with them a few weeks ago but not a lot recently.
“I have been away on holiday but when they appoint a new manager, which looks like it’s going to be in the next couple of weeks, myself and my agent will hopefully speak with them if they are still interested.
“There have been a few bits of interest from elsewhere but I would love to go back to Shrewsbury.”
Skarz admitted he was disappointed to see Shrewsbury’s promotion dream fritter away into a 12th place finish last term. But he insisted he would have no problems dropping down a level from League One.
“When I first came to Shrewsbury I had an offer from another League One club but I had absolutely no regrets about the decision I made,” he revealed.
“I could see Shrewsbury was a good club and, while the results didn’t turn out as we all wanted near the end of the season, nothing changed my mind on that.”
