Ex-Wolves star set to join Bridgnorth?
Tuesday 1st June 2010, 3:10PM BST.
Former Wolves star Tony Dinning is set to be named as the new assistant manager at Bridgnorth Town.
Dinning, 35, who ended last season at Stafford Rangers, is in talks with new Bridgnorth boss Lee Mills about the position.
And Mills is hopeful Dinning, who also enjoyed spells with Stockport County and Chester City, will join him in the coming weeks.
Mills said: “I’ve been in contact with Tony and we’ve had a chat.
“Nothing is set in stone yet but I’m really hoping to get it sorted out sooner rather than later.
“He is very ambitious like me and he wants to get involved with the coaching side of things. He’s started taking his coaching badges and I think he’ll want to play as well so it could work out really well for us.
“I actually know him because we had the same agent and he lives quite close so it could be perfect.”
Same direction
Meanwhile Mills added that he was keen to bring some stability to the club – Bridgnorth are currently without a chairman – both on and off the field.
He said: “I want to bring in a third person as a coach, someone who has been at Bridgnorth for a while and who knows the club inside out.
“It’s important to get everybody working together and pulling in the same direction.
“Every one of the players at the club at the moment has the chance to impress me and we will take it from there.”
But Mills did hint that he was looking to the future ahead of next season’s Midland Alliance campaign
“I’ve been in touch with quite a few players from around the area,” he said. “Most of them are aged somewhere between 16-23 years old because I want young players in the side.
“I want people who are ambitious and can perhaps use Bridgnorth as a stepping stone to get on in the game.
“I’ve got no axe to grind with older players but it’s important to get youngsters involved.”
Mills also confirmed that Bridgnorth will kick off their preparations for the new season with a home friendly with West Midlands Premier outfit AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday, July 17.
Town will also entertain Bewdley Town, Wem Town, Rushall Olympic and Ludlow Town before the new season begins on August 7.
