Cansdell-Sheriff likely to stay with Shrews
Tuesday 1st June 2010, 12:35PM BST.
Defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff today confirmed that he is “likely” to sign a contract to remain at Shrewsbury Town for 2010-11.
The Australian, who became a regular at centre half in the second half of last season, is the only member of the five senior players offered contracts at the end of last season not to have yet determined his future.
But Cansdell-Sherriff was expected to have further talks with club officials today.
New manager
“I have just got back from holiday so hopefully the contract situation will be a bit clearer by the end of the week,” said Cansdell-Sherriff, who confirmed he is considering no other offers from other clubs at present.
“I don’t like to rush these things and I have still got time to sign it. At this stage, it’s most likely that I will sign.
“I’m not sure when an announcement is due on a new manager but I would like to wait until after that before committing.”
Kevin McIntyre, Benjamin van den Broek and Harry Hooman have already agreed fresh deals while last season’s leading scorer David Hibbert has departed for Peterborough.
Meanwhile, the hunt for a new boss continues with rumours continuing to link Graham Turner with a return to the club.
Turner is still attempting to negotiate the sale of his shares at Hereford.
Steve Cotterill, Alan Knill and Mark Venus are amongst other names who have been connected with the job while Mike Jackson – who took the role of caretaker for the final game at Port Vale – may still have a part to play.
Accrington Stanley assistant manager John Coleman has become the latest name linked with the hot-seat.
He and assistant manager Jimmy Bell are waiting to have new contracts sorted at Accrington.
And Bell said: “I think it could come back to bite them if we didn’t sign it, because someone might take a chance on us and then it would be down to us what we wanted to do. John has been linked with Bradford and Shrewsbury.”
