Wem roll over the champions again

Wem USC pulled off their second win over high-flying Castlefields in the space of three days with a 11-3, +44 shots home victory in the Furrows Shropshire Premier Bowls League.

Having defeated Fields in the semi-final of the Alan Mayhew Trophy on Wednesday, they followed it up with another fine success last night to trim the defending champs’ lead to four points.

Colin Smith led the way for Wem with a 21-7 victory, with Andrew Judson replying with a similar score.

St Georges, in second, are hot on the heels of the pacesetters after sealing a 10-4, agg +34 shots triumph over visiting Wrockwardine Wood.

The two sides had also met in the Alan Mayhew Trophy a few days earlier, and the Dragons carried on from where they left off in Wednesday’s win to complete a double over the Wrockites.
