Boss Andy Sinton has held “positive” talks with a number of AFC Telford United’s existing players as he sets about building a new-look squad.

Goalkeeper Ryan Young has already signalled his intent to put pen to paper on a new deal at the New Bucks Head.

And Sinton believes the signs are encouraging after initial talks with skipper Stuart Whitehead, and top scorer Andy Brown, as well as midfielders Jon Adams and Kevin O’Connor.

“I had a long conversation with Ryan Young and he’s agreed to re-sign,” Sinton confirmed.

“I’m delighted with that because he’s a great goalkeeper. He loves Telford and wants to stay.

“Stuart Whitehead also said he loves the club and wants to stay, and I’m sure that won’t be a problem.

“I had very positive talks with Andy Brown and I’ll meet up with him next week. Hopefully there won’t be too many problems with that one.

“I’ve spoken to Jon Adams and Kevin O’Connor and we’ll meet up to talk again next week.”

Meanwhile, Sinton has expressed his delight at managing to tempt Darren Read away from Stafford Rangers to become his No 2.

The former Bucks reserve team boss has also worked at, among others, Wolves, Derby and Lindholm IF in Denmark.

Sinton and Read first became acquainted at Wolves and have stayed in touch over the last 10 years.

“He’s obviously been working at the level I’m coming into for the last few years and he’s got a good reputation,” said Sinton.

“When I was applying for the job I had a few people in mind that I might like with me, but Darren has emerged as the one and I’m delighted to have him on board.

“He’s done things properly at Stafford and he’s excited to come and work with me. He’s a good appointment for us.”
