New AFC Telford United manager Andy Sinton has got straight down to business – holding talks with a string of potential transfer targets.
The Bucks boss met the media at a press conference last night before departing to sell the club to a number of players he is hoping to recruit.
And he has another busy day in store today, as he begins talks with Telford’s current playing squad to determine who will stay and who is heading for the exit door.
“I had a few conversations with people last night, the wheels are in motion and it was all very positive,” said Sinton today.
“I’m going to start getting through the existing players this afternoon.
“I will be looking to arrange meetings with them face-to-face or, if they are going away, then I will speak to them by phone.”
Sinton is ready for some hard bargaining, having agreed to work with a budget that has been cut slightly from the one with which predecessor Rob Smith worked last season.
But he is confident that he has the resources he needs to retain the players he wants for next season’s Blue Square Bet North campaign.
“I’ll be sitting down with people and trying to negotiate,” he added. “We have to cut our cloth accordingly.
“There’s going to be people who are desperate to stay and others where I will be to-ing and fro-ing negotiating a little bit, and there are also going to be new signings that I have got in the pipeline.
“It’s going to be a busy time, I’m not going to get a lot of sleep.”
The former England international is also continuing to work hard behind the scenes to put an experienced coaching staff in place.
“I’ll bring a No 2 and another coach in with me as well,” he revealed.
“I held conversations with people last night and that will be done by the middle of next week, I would have thought.”
