AFC Telford announce new manager
Wednesday 26th May 2010, 10:00AM BST.
Former England international Andy Sinton was today unveiled as the new manager of AFC Telford United.
The 44-year-old has emerged as the successful candidate after a gruelling interview process – beating the likes of former Peterborough boss Mark Cooper and Northwich chief Andy Preece to the job.
Ex-Spurs and Wolves man Sinton succeeds Rob Smith, who led Telford to promotion from the UniBond League in 2007 but was sacked last month after a disappointing season in the Blue Square North.
And chairman Lee Carter is delighted to have been able to appoint the “outstanding candidate”.
“It had to be someone who clearly demonstrated desire, passion and enthusiasm, and Andy ticks all those boxes,” he said.
“He blew us away.
“He had a very difficult job as he probably only got onto the shortlist because of his sheer persistence.
“He hasn’t got any direct management experience at this level but he still blew us away, and in the end he was the outstanding applicant at this level.
“We are not in a position to announce his assistant just yet, but it will be someone with good experience at Blue Square North level.”

As a Bucks fan I am disgusted with simons comments. This club has dragged it self out of the ashes and is now a first rate club with good prospects.
I think that he can lead OUR team all the way to the playoffs . I have confidence in OUR board to choose the right person and I feel that every true fan will be behind the board in their choice.
A true fan always supports their team and is always positive about their teams ability.
I SAY BEST OF LUCK TO ANDY SINTON WE ARE BEHIND YOU 100%

The Clubs board lost a huge amount of credibility by sacking a manager who had done a fantastic job, but had 1 mediocre season. Didn’t Carter say, time after time when the gong was good that Smith and Chambers had a ‘job for life’, ‘best in the non-league’ etc. etc.
Where was the board to stand by their men, when they needed it most? They took an easy way out and sacked them.
We now have Andy Sinton, an unusual choice, but he must be wary of a board that is about as credible as a coalition government

A very poor appointment that smacks of desperation. I’m convinced that he’s been appointed as a known face/name for Trust & community reasons rather than to achieve success on the pitch. Perhaps Trust board egos have come into play with this?

Barnstaple Buck, it was obvious from the body language of Rob over the last few games of the season that he had run out of ideas. Rob constantly left two of Telford’s better players Jon Adams and Danny Edwards out of the starting line up.
We needed a new manager with new ideas and hopefully Andy Sinton will do just that.

Good luck to Andy Sinton.
He will win the respect of the players as someone who’s seen it, done it and worn the tee-shirt. Unlike Smith, no player could ever question his tactics even if he does get it wrong ! Smith was a one trick pony who when things got tough he threw his dummy out the pram. How many players did he not get on with and were kicked out the club. Perry, Craven, Brock, Hay, Lewis, Edwards ect..
Roll on the new season

GOOD COMMENT ANDY UP THE BUCKS.

Lots of jealous Shrewsbury fans on here already I see!
Good luck Andy Sinton, congratulations on earning yourself a first class job.

Some of these comments are quite frankly cringeworthy. Sinton has barely even sat down in the Telford seat and he’s being criticised, it really does sum up some of the AFC Telford fans attitudes.
I say good luck to Sinton, hope he can take us to where the previous management team couldn’t.

I think some people need to look up the meaning of the word “supporter”

I was a big fan of Rob & Larry & do feel that they were removed rather unceremoniously, however the reality is that they aren’t in charge any more so my support now goes to Andy Sinton as manager.
I do have to take issue with Apley Buck’s list of players that were “were kicked out the club” for not getting on with Rob Smith.
Perry – don’t know the circumstances but despite the goals he was very lazy.
Craven – thought he didn’t need to earn his place.
Brock – couldn’t save a shot directed straight at him (think Burscough).
Hay – actually a big favourite of Smith’s, but not so with the fans, it went sour because of how he chose to leave (by sending a text message!) as Rob thought, after standing up for him in the face of fan criticism, that some loyalty might have been due in return.
Lewis – broke his leg, but the club still paid him even when not obliged to, was never the same player afterwards and was thus released.
Edwards – not sure of the exact nature of the disagreement but think it came down to attitude in training, etc. Also think he fell under the influence of some of the more disruptive elements in the dressing room.
If that wasn’t enough, all of the above were replaced by players who were better than them, or at least as good as!

A great appointment, its obvious that sinton has a proven track record at non league level and has the desire and hunger to succeed.
The previous comments by so called bucks fans were no doubt happy to watch the DIRE LONG BALL DROSS served up by the previous management.
Having heard and read comments about the style of play that Fleet Town delivered under Sinton i for one cant wait for the season to start.

Nice to see all those people being so critical of the board and of Andy down at the ground to hear what he had to say. What big names were associated with it? Just because names are linked doesn’t mean they have applied. Sinton comes across as a very professional bloke and someone who wants to further his own career aswell as our club.

Did Carter not say that Smith would be Manager for as long as he was Chairman? So is he standing by his words and stepping down or is he a politician!!!
Sinton cheap option and lacks ambition, Cooper was the man to move us forward

give the guy a chance as for rob did a good job but had not got a clue towards the end. Some fans should look at the bigger picture perhaps Rob was not all what he seemed. Good Luck Andy and well done Lee and the board

@ 9, Of course there are Shrewsbury fans on here……How else would you get this many comments on a Telford United story

@12
you are correct with all you summing up of the players listed. Hay was driven out of the club the so called fans by the amount of abuse he had to endure, yet Apley sees fit to blame Rob Smith, Of the others most were not upto it and i include Perry who at the time was lazy, of that list he is the only one that went on and progressed his footballing career as he was still young.

@ # 6.
“One of our better players Danny Edwards”
hahahaha. Glad you haven’t got the job. We’d be playing the dog and duck within 5 years.
Seriously he’s the worst player to play at the bucks head since Phil Barnett in the fans team game!!
