End the waiting game, says Young
Tuesday 25th May 2010, 1:06PM BST.
Goalkeeper Ryan Young is eager for AFC Telford United to end their managerial manhunt – admitting the uncertainty is starting to tell.
Right-back Lee Vaughan has been the only player to leave the Bucks since Rob Smith was sacked more than four weeks ago.
But Young, who has come to the end of a two-year contract, hopes tomorrow’s impending announcement will quickly be followed by a retained list.
Telford are close to unveiling their new boss, with the likes of Andy Sinton and Mark Cooper amongst the names in the frame.
And current Blue Square North bosses Andy Preece (Northwich) and Dean Thomas (Hinckley) are also thought to have been interviewed.
And one of the first jobs for the successful candidate will be deciding who to keep from the Bucks’ current playing roster.
Probably
“The players have probably been waiting long enough and we’d like to know what’s happening soon,” said Young.
“I’ve had one or two offers from elsewhere, nothing concrete, but I don’t really want to leave anyway.
“But a lot of clubs are already purchasing or signing players and that could leave us short of options if we’re suddenly told we’re not wanted.
“Hopefully it doesn’t come to that, and whoever comes in will know about me and tell me they want me to stay, but I can’t help worrying.”
Meanwhile, Young was in action earlier in the month, playing for his native Isle of Wight in a friendly against the Royal Marines.
The game was part of the build-up to next year’s Island Games, which the Isle of Wight are hosting in 2011.
“It’s a big deal for us, and the Island Games will include the likes of Guernsey, Jersey and Malta,” said Young.
