Tiger add Joe Henry to ranks

Telford Tigers have added Coventry Blaze youngster Joe Henry to the squad being built for their return to the English Premier League in September.

Henry, 20, has been a team-mate of Tigers coach Tom Watkins for the past four years, and comes highly recommended by his new boss.

“Joe will be an important player for us,” said Watkins. “His experience of playing in big games with the Blaze’s Elite side will transfer well into the EPL. He has a good skill level, shoots and skates well and knows how it feels to be part of a winning team.

“He’s going to be taking more responsibility, playing at EPL level, but I expect him to put up good numbers.

“I know him very well; I know what he does well and what he does not do so well. And he knows me, and how I want my team to play.

“He’s a nice kid, he’s going to fit in with my plans very well and I’m looking forward to seeing him develop with the Tigers.”

Henry, who comes from Solihull, stands around 5ft 9ins tall and tasted league success with the Blaze under-16s and under-19s before stepping up to Coventry’s ENL and Elite teams.

He also has international experience with the England and GB youth teams.

Henry added: “I’m really looking forward to coming to Telford, can’t wait to get there.

Good level

“I’ve played with Tom for four years, so I know him quite well. I expect him to put a good team together, and make sure that all the guys get along well.

“Being in the EPL will be a different challenge, but it is a good level, with some good players so I think I will enjoy it.”

l The Tigers are the first UK ice hockey club to be owned and managed by a supporters’ trust.

The club continues to appeal for new members and sponsorship – anyone interested can find out more at www.telfordtigers.co.uk
