Bucks’ O’Connor tempted by Worcester City

Friday 14th May 2010, 11:23AM BST.

In-demand AFC Telford United midfielder Kevin O’Connor is eager to resolve his future – with Worcester City bidding to tempt him away.

The former Wolves man has been approached by the Blue Square South club, who finished in a relegation position but could earn a reprieve because of problems for other clubs.

And the 25-year-old admits the chance to link up with a former team-mate could be tempting if there is no clarification on his position at Telford.

“Worcester came in quite early after the season finished and I’ve got a good offer on the table,” said O’Connor.

Preferred

“I know their assistant manager Mark Clyde, who used to play at Wolves with me, and I know a few of the players there as well.

“We’ve got the presentation evening tomorrow night and I’m hoping to get a chance to speak to the chairman then and see what’s happening.

“I know he’s busy trying to get a new manager and he did say to me that he wants me to stay.

“At this moment in time Telford is still my preferred option, but I’ll have to see what the chairman says to me tomorrow.”

O’Connor insists he does not want to drop to a lower level and has only been willing to consider the Worcester offer after getting assurances on their status.

“They have been relegated but there have been a few clubs going into administration and I’ve been told there’s a very good chance they will be staying in Conference South or moving into the Conference North,” he added.

Meanwhile, the hunt for a new manager continues – with the club now closing in on their top targets.

Interviews have been held with the leading candidates and the club remains on course for their May 24 deadline.
