Shrewsbury Town skipper Graham Coughlan is eyeing one final hurrah at Shrewsbury Town as the future of out-of-contract players comes under scrutiny.

With Town’s Board pledging not to rush in to a new managerial appointment, the immediate focus falls on to members of the squad whose deals terminate this summer.

Coughlan is one of those and, while he accepts he has dipped below his best this season, the genial Irishman is convinced he still has a role to play at the club.

“I haven’t had a good season but I haven’t become a bad player overnight,” said the 35-year-old.

“I would love the chance to be at this club for another year and have the opportunity to redeem myself.

“The dream here has always been to get promotion and there is every chance this club will be in that position in 12 months. I have had experience of promotions which can be crucial.

Coughlan admitted he may have to nurse himself through another campaign if a fresh contract is offered this week.

But he added: “I still feel I have a lot to offer this club and we will have to wait and see what happens now.”

Amongst the other players out of contract this summer are leading scorer and player of the year Dave Hibbert, midfield duo Kevin McIntyre and Paul Murray and defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff.

The supporters player of the year event takes place at the Prostar Stadium tonight, with admission £7 for adults and juniors £5. It starts at 7.30pm.
