Hibbert would be happy to stay

Hotshot Dave Hibbert insists he would be thrilled to stay and help fire Shrewsbury Town out of League Two —but admits other clubs are monitoring his situation.
The 24-year-old striker is coming to the end of a three-year contract and has become hot property after a season that has seen him score 15 times in Town’s otherwise disappointing campaign.
Hibbert revealed that other clubs were looking during the January transfer window and were again waiting in the wings to see what happens at Shrewsbury.
Peterborough United, who are preparing for life back in League One after being relegated, have been linked with Hibbert, but their manager Gary Johnson is refusing to comment on the speculation.
But the former Preston forward offered hope to Town fans — admitting he could well sit down for talks on a new deal once a new manager is appointed.
“It’s a time where we don’t know who’s going to be in charge so there’s going to be uncertainty, but I’d love to stay if things were right,” he said.
Enjoyed
“I’m aware that there are one or two other clubs looking at me, but I’ve enjoyed my time here – the aim was to get this club out of League Two and I still want to do that.
“There was a little bit of interest in me in January and there’s interest at the minute as well.
“It’s a bit of a waiting game to get this season out of the way, and then we’ll sit down and discuss things.”
Hibbert had largely failed to live up to expectations during his first two years at the club, but has been a revelation this term.
And he puts a lot of that down to departed boss Paul Simpson.
“He’s stood by us all season and for him to go shows that we have let him down as a group,” said Hibbert.
“I had a difficult time last time with injury, I was in and out, but this season I made sure I was in shape and he gave me my chance — I’ll always be grateful for that.”
