Wolves warn off Kevin Doyle suitors
Wednesday 5th May 2010, 11:30AM BST.
Wolves owner Steve Morgan today issued a firm hands-off warning to any club moving for Kevin Doyle.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a confirmed admirer of Wolves’ club record £6.5m record signing and was linked with launching a £10m bid for the newly crowned Players’ Player of the Year at the weekend.
Wenger said: “I like him personally. He is an intelligent striker. He is good everywhere – I’ve followed him since he was at Reading.”
The Gunners are reportedly set to lose Eduardo in the summer which would leave them a striker short, prompting speculation that Wenger will sign a replacement.
Wolves recognise if Arsenal come waving the cheque book then the lure of big cash and Champions League football will prove hard for their prize asset to resist.
But chairman Morgan said: “For a start, we’ve had absolutely zero contact with any club whatsoever, and Kevin Doyle is not for sale.
“It’s as simple as that. Kevin Doyle is one of a number of top players at this club and we want Kevin to stay.
“He’s been a really good signing for us, he loves it at the club and we absolutely want him to stay. We want to build this club and that’s the message for any Premier League club, that our best players are not for sale.”
Meanwhile, fans’ player of the year Jody Craddock has revealed he is close to signing his new contract.
“I hope it gets, done the sooner the better because I want to stay at this club,” he said.
