O’Connor urged to sit tight
Tuesday 4th May 2010, 2:28PM BST.
Midfielder Kevin O’Connor has been urged to sit tight by AFC Telford United despite a rival club aiming to lure him away.
The former Wolves ace was one of the success stories of an otherwise disappointing Blue Square North season for the Bucks.
His form has alerted another un-named Midlands-based side, who have been quick to offer him terms for next season.
But Telford have asked the 24-year-old to wait for progress on the search for a new manager before making any concrete decisions on his future playing plans.
Under some pressure
“Kevin’s keen to be here, he loves it at this club,” chairman Lee Carter declared.
“The other team involved are trying to put him under some pressure, which is their right, but we’ve asked him to sit tight for now.
“I don’t consider it an option for the Board to start stepping in to sign players, we don’t get involved in football affairs.
“We’ve tried to give Kevin something on the horizon to hold onto, so that the new manager will be able to speak with him.
“Kevin is saying that he is happy with that.”
Carter also revealed that they will be taking some time out from the search for a new manager to review the situation of defender Lee Vaughan.
Full-back Vaughan has already spoken of his desire to move on and try his luck at a higher level next season.
The 23-year-old is out of contract and will be able to leave on a free if the Bucks do not offer him terms.
“We’ll be reviewing that this week,” said Carter.
“It’s pretty clear where Lee Vaughan wants to be, having spoken to him.
“At this moment in time we’re stuck, because I feel very reluctant to commit the Board to signing players before the new manager comes in.”
