Heggs wants Bucks job

Former Baggie Carl Heggs today threw his name into the ring for the AFC Telford United job — promising to form a dream partnership with ex-Buck Sean Parrish.

Heggs had a long Football League playing career and cut his teeth in management as assistant for two years at Redditch before going it alone with the now defunct King’s Lynn.

And with current Northampton youth coach Parrish who served in Bernard McNally’s staff at Telford lined up as a potential No 2, it could be a serious option for the Bucks Board in the search for Rob Smith’s successor.

“I’ve turned down a couple of jobs since I left King’s Lynn because they weren’t right,” the 39-year-old revealed. “But Telford is a fantastic club and it would be an honour and a pleasure to be manager there. If I was lucky enough to get that job, it would be one of my proudest moments in football.

“I’ve been good friends with Sean for 10 years since our days playing together at Northampton and he’s said he’d come in as my No 2.

“He knows the area, knows the club and knows what kind of expectation there is there.”

Heggs’ playing career started at West Brom and took in the likes of Swansea and Northampton.

He played for Tamworth and Hinckley in the Blue Square North before joining Redditch as assistant to Gary Whild in 2007.

The ex-striker added: “I only got the King’s Lynn job because no-one else wanted it. We had no facilities, no players, nothing.

“By the time the club was unfortunately wound up (earlier this season) we’d scored 49 goals in 18 games and we were third in the UniBond League playing really good football.”

Heggs joins a long list of hopefuls, including ex-England international Andy Sinton and former Shrewsbury boss Jimmy Quinn.

Others include ex-Nottingham Forest man Des Lyttle and former Wolves midfielder Tony Dinning.
