Bucks set out contracts timetable

Thursday 22nd April 2010, 12:25PM BST.

AFC Telford United are set to issue their players with a timetable for contract talks following the conclusion of the Blue Square North campaign on Saturday.

The future of manager Rob Smith is yet to be clarified ahead of the final game at Vauxhall Motors, with the Bucks among the midtable also-rans.

And the position is no clearer for Telford’s playing squad, with just three men –striker Danny Carey-Bertram and defenders Shane Killock and Sean Newton – contracted for the 2010-11 campaign.

But chairman Lee Carter has moved to offer some re-assurance, insisting that no other clubs have made any official inquiries for their players.

“We’ve had no approaches at all,” said Carter. “And we’ve assured the players that by the time we get through the Vauxhall Motors game on Saturday they will be given a timetable as to what the club is working to.

“That will encourage them that we are working towards a position where we can begin to open talks.

“In the past, we’ve always done our business by opening talks around the second week in May at the time of the presentation evening, and we’re still three weeks away from that point.”

Carter has also clarified Telford’s position with regard to right-back Lee Vaughan, following claims in some quarters that he has already signed for another club.

Vaughan has been linked with Kidderminster and Mansfield and will be out of contract next week.

But, because he is under 24, the Bucks would be entitled to pursue a fee if they were to offer him a new contract on terms at least matching his current deal.

“He’s under contract until the first weekend in May and then we have seven days to offer him a new contract,” Carter revealed.

“Once we get to that point, then we will be indicating whether we are doing that.

“We have had a brief discussion with Lee and, as yet, he hasn’t signed with anyone anywhere else.”
