Carter calls for Bucks unity
Wednesday 21st April 2010, 3:26PM BST.
Chairman Lee Carter today broke the wall of silence from AFC Telford United’s Board, declaring: “We will bring new purpose to this club.”
Little has been heard from Telford’s top brass in almost two weeks, since Carter told StarSport that “brutal” changes were in the pipeline.
That led to inevitable speculation about the futures of manager Rob Smith and his assistant Larry Chambers, who will be out of contract at the end of June.
Carter was today remaining tight-lipped about any discussions that have taken place regarding the management team.
But he has moved to assure supporters that plans are being put in place to try and ensure that the Bucks are back to being Blue Square North promotion contenders next season.
“For the last two weeks, we’ve done nothing but talk and plan every minute of every day about how we are going to stabilise the club,”said Carter today.
“We remain determined to fulfil our commitment to go into next season with new unity and new purpose.
“It’s a process that will take time. People think after the season comes to an end that the club shuts up shop – but that is not the case.”
Carter insists that the future of Smith and Chambers, as well as that of the playing squad, is only one piece of a large jigsaw.
“There are things we are working on with varying degrees of importance,” added the Telford chairman.
“But the key is that it all comes together to ensure we go forward with that new focus we so need.”
- More than 300 votes were cast for Telford’s player of the year at Saturday’s 4-2 home defeat to Corby. Fans can still vote online by visiting www.telford-utd.co.uk. The winner will receive his award at the club’s presentation evening on Saturday, May 15.
- Southport blew the chance to wrap up the Blue Square North title last night, going down 3-1 at home to Alfreton.
