Big play-off boost for Town
Wednesday 21st April 2010, 11:31AM BST.
Injury victims Craig Disley and Jake Robinson are ready to step up their bid to play a part in Shrewsbury Town’s crucial League Two run-in.
Disley, who has suffered an injury cursed season after his summer arrival from Bristol Rovers, has been out with an ankle problem since the end of February.
And medial knee ligament damage has left former Brighton forward Robinson sidelined for almost three weeks.
But the pair’s progress has been encouraging and both are pencilled in to return to training tomorrow as Shrewsbury continue their quest to win the last three games to possibly seal a play-off position.
“Craig and Jamie have been doing really well,” said manager Paul Simpson.
“We have got our last reserve game at Derby next Thursday and hopefully they will get some time in that match.
“Whether they will be fit to be in contention for the Morecambe game the following Saturday we will have to see.
“Jake may have more of a chance than Craig because he has been out for a shorter time.”
Skipper Graham Coughlan’s recovery from a thigh problem is also going well and he is still in contention to be available before the end of the regular campaign.
And with striker Nathan Elder due to return to the Prostar Stadium after a loan spell at AFC Wimbledon after the weekend, Simpson could see his options boosted by the return of a quartet of players to his squad.
Shrewsbury’s final two away games of the League Two campaign, at Northampton on Saturday and Port Vale on May 8 are all ticket to away fans.
And Town fans have up until 5pm on Friday to purchase their tickets for this weekend’s trip to Sixfields.
Meanwhile, Town’s reserves slipped to a 4-0 defeat away at Walsall last night in the totesport.com Central League. Both sides had strong line-ups featuring several first team regulars – see page 38.
