Which devices can use the app?

The app is compatible with Apple iOS (iPads & iPhones), Android phones and tablets, and Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD.

Do I need a subscription to use the app?

No. You can view all of the web content that is published in the app free of charge. However, you will need a subscription if you wish to access the digital edition of the paper, which is also contained within the app. A user can subscribe by visiting: www.expressandstar.com/digital-subscribe or www.shropshirestar.com/digital-subscribe

Can I use my single subscription on any device I own, regardless of operating system?

Yes, BUT only if you have subscribed via the MNA subscription pages at www.expressandstar.com/digital-subscribe or www.shropshirestar.com/digital-subscribe

If you subscribed via an app store (e.g. Apple’s App Store, Google Play or Amazon Appstore) your subscription will be locked to your store account. This is a restriction placed on us by the individual stores.

If you want a subscription that gives you multiple device type access, you must cancel your subscription with the relevant app store and then re-subscribe at: www.expressandstar.com/digital-subscribe or www.shropshirestar.com/digital-subscribe

How often is the news content in the app updated?

The refresh icon

The news feed that powers the app is updated every 30 minutes. To ensure that you are reading the latest content you should press the refresh button in the top right-hand corner of the app. This will cause the content to reload and any new or updated stories will now be available.

Why can a see a large block of white space in an article?

Sometimes the editorial team will embed content into a news story that isn’t compatible with the app, particularly if it is provided to them by a 3rd party. Since the app is fed by a news stream from the website we can’t accommodate for every eventuality. In these instances a white space may appear. However, at the foot of every article is a link to the original story on our website. By clicking the link you will be taken to the story as it appears on the website.

How can I comment on a story in the app?

Unfortunately, at this time you are unable to comment within the app. However, at the foot of every article is a link to the original story on our website. By clicking the link you will be taken to the story as it appears on the website and if commenting has been activated on the story you will be able to place a comment this way.
