Jobs hopes as firm plans Oswestry expansion
Plans for an extension to an industrial estate in Oswestry could bring new jobs to the town.
Dennis Edwards Development Ltd is planning to put new units on the Maesbury Industrial Estate. Work will start on the five and a half acres of land in the New Year but a new road has already been created, which developer Dennis Edwards said could be used to build several units.
“There will be commercial units put up for whoever wants them,” he said. “Some will be up for rent and some will be up for sale.
“We are taking inquiries about it at the moment.
“Basically it is being set up ready for the early part of next year.”
Mr Edwards, who already owns units along Maesbury Road, said the final set up of the land would depend on the interest generated.
“It depends on what people want,” he said. “They can have half an acre to five acres.
“I have put the road in there to see if we can create interest. Not much will happen now until after Christmas.”
Mayor of Oswestry, Councillor Martin Bennett, said that an extension to the industrial estates would be a welcome addition to Oswestry’s economic infrastructure.
He said: “I think the town would welcome this.
“From the discussions I have had with Shropshire Council about the local development scheme there is a considerable shortage of employment land.
“If you have serviced employment land then there is a better opportunity to bring employers to the area and provide jobs for people.
“Perhaps one of the strengths of Oswestry is that we are not wholly dependent on one big employer.”
