September 21, 2012 08:00 Pictures from the Past - 21 Sep This week's collection of nostalgia pictures from the pages of the Shropshire Star. 1 / 6 A Shrewsbury landmark disappears forever on October 7, 1964. It was the Barker Street traffic island. It had to go to make way for the new Shrewsbury market hall which was nearing completion at the time. Miners at Granville Colliery, St Georges, line up to collect their pay on September 9, 1960. The pit had been closed for a week because of an underground fire, and work was about to resume. The Anchor pub in Shrewsbury was cut off by floodwaters in December 1964. Help, however, was at hand. Food, milk and other supplies were brought by boat at regular intervals by Nevill Tipton and “Butty” Pugh. Tweet
