The "Pretty Muddy" event was organised by Cancer Research UK and saw hundreds of women tackling a five or 10km obstacle course in the grounds of the stately home.

They lined up for the start in symbolic pink outfits, showing solidarity with the Cancer Research Race for Life cause.

However, the course, which included tunnels, slides, and mud pools, made sure that by the time they had finished the participants were caked head to toe in mud.

Emily Thompson, Cancer Research UK's Shropshire event manager, said they had been thrilled to use Weston Park as a venue for the challenge.

She said: "We're delighted to be able to bring Pretty Muddy back to Weston Park as it's a fantastic addition to our Race for Life family of events.

"It has all the fun and camaraderie of our much-loved 5k and 10k events but with added obstacles and, of course, mud.

"Plus, Weston Park is still the country's only venue to host a 10k Pretty Muddy event.

The organiser said that the event had proved particularly popular because it was not competitive.

She said: "Women can complete the course at their own pace, climbing, jumping, walking and laughing their way around. It's about women of all ages, shapes and sizes tackling obstacles."
