More than 700 walkers took part in this year's event with hundreds more lining the streets to cheer them on.

And it was perfect weather for a long stroll – nice and cool and no sign of rain.

Many donned fancy dress and face paint for the occasion, which raises thousands of pounds for local and national good causes.

Around 600 people took on the 22-mile senior walk, which took them to the top of the Brown Clee and back to Bridgnorth.

Among them was Andrew Rawling, of Ludlow, who once again took the top spot as the first person back to base.

Mr Rawling, 50, who works for Veolia Shropshire, completed the senior walk in an impressive three hours and 29 minutes. It is the 16th time he has been the fastest walker in the event's history.

His partner Belinda Towney said: "He is very fit. He thinks nothing of going for a 20-mile bike ride. He raised money for Asthma UK and has helped a load of different charities in the past."

Junior numbers reached 130 for the seven-kilometre dash from the village of Ditton Priors up the Brown Clee and back.

Chairman Peter Davison thanked everyone for taking part including the volunteers who helped to marshal the event.

Zoe Baggott, from Billingsley, near Bridgnorth, joined the Alzheimer's Research UK as a regional fundraising officer and did the walk in aid of the charity.

She said: "I've lived in the Bridgnorth area for more than 11 years and the Bridgnorth Walk is a fantastic event, which has helped raise money for so many worthwhile causes."

Castlefields Primary School in Bridgnorth once again organised a huge team for this year's walk, with 14 adults and 29 juniors.

Sponsorship will be split between the school and the Children's Oncology Department at Princess Royal Hospital, in Telford.

More than 40 walkers from Northgate Swimming Club also took part.

Road closures were in force while the walk took place yesterday. The annual Bridgnorth Walk is all about raising money for charity and has been held since 1967.
