More than 100 clubs had set out their intricately detailed models on display against the impressive backdrop of aircraft in the museum's hangars.

Also attending Shropshire Modellers' Show were 42 traders selling everything enthusiasts could need to build the perfect model whether it be a tank, car or boat. The free show was organised by Shropshire Scale Modellers.

Event organiser Gary Stevens said: "It has been very busy again. It looks busier than last year. There are 104 displays and 42 traders, which is a great turnout.

"There are thousands of models of aircraft, cars, bikes and trucks. We even have some Daleks to entertain the crowds. On sale are starter kits right through to conversion sets.

"We have been doing the show now for 15 years and demand still appears to be as high as ever.

"The show has expanded over the years and now we have clubs and retailers spread out across RAF Cosford's museum. We have filled the space in all four hangars.

"I think this year we will have seen about 7,000 people visit – maybe more."

And organising a show on such a large scale has been no easy job. Mr Stevens added: "It takes about six months to prepare for the show.

"We try to put each model club near the aircraft they are interested in – which is never easy when they are always changing the exhibitions."

He said: "We have gone international now and today people have come from France, Germany and Poland for the show. That is how big it has become."

One of the many businesses at the show was Telford-based Kingkit. Kingkit is a family business and has been trading for 28 years.

During this time it has built up a reputation for offering a wide range of hard-to-find model kits.

Andrew Rolling, manager, said: "We used to do all the shows but now all we come to is this one. It is such a fun show and appeals to people of all ages. The atmosphere and setting is brilliant and we love coming."

Another regular of the show is model enthusiast Dennis Warren, 76, of Wrockwardine Wood, Telford.

Dennis is part of the National Association of Road Transport Models and has been interested in modelling all his life.

He said: "I have been coming for about six years now and think it is a great show."
