Shropshire to dig deep for Children in Need

Fundraisers across Shropshire will be doing everything from vying for a day’s muck spreading to getting tethered to their best pal to drum up cash for Children In Need.

Several events have already taken place and a host more are in the offing when the county plays its part in boosting the charity coffers.

The big day is tomorrow when staff and youngsters at Ercall Day Nursery in Grainger Drive, Telford, will be dressing up as rock stars and baking cakes while manager Emma Morris will have custard pies and wet sponges thrown at her.

Seven staff took part in a car wash on Tuesday, washing 25 cars to raise £70.

And Matt Lord, 17, and Tanya Willet, 20, who work at the Bridge Builder pub on Wrekin Retail Park, Wellington, scaled the Wrekin on Monday in an hour dressed as Wacky Warehouse characters to raise about £200.

Feel the Beat line dancing instructors Alan and Barb Heighway will teach routines at the Maddocks Club in Oakengates at 8pm on Sunday. Entrance is £3.50.

Diane Edwards, from the Clock Cafe in the Market Village, Welshpool, is holding a cupcake decorating competition on Saturday between 10am and 2pm, at a cost of £2 per cake that will be donated to the charity.

Newport nurseries will host a range of fundraisers, such as at Tots at Tiggywingles in Forton Road, which will become a bakery for the day with the opening of the youngsters’ cake stall.

Elsewhere Pudsey will appear at a community children’s party on Saturday at Shrewsbury Sports Village between 3pm and 5pm.

Among the attractions will be a bouncy castle, trampolining, roller skating, toddlers soft play, face painting, sand art and football.

Bridgnorth Buddies will hold a coffee morning and cake sale at St Leonard’s Hall Church, Racecourse Drive, between 10.30am and noon on Saturday.

Barclays Bank in High Street will also be collecting tomorrow while Morville Primary School pupils are to hold balloon races and run cake stalls.

Market Drayton mother-of-two Sian Rushton, from Highfields, took a vow of silence from 9am on Wed-nesday until 9am today.

Everything from a haircut to a day muck spreading will be among the lots up for grabs at a charity auction at the Horse and Jockey in Northwood, near Wem, at 7.30pm tomorrow.

Youngsters at the Mar-ches School in Oswestry will have a non-uniform day, make cakes and two students plan to spend the entire day tied together.

Staff at the Midcounties Co-operative in Lion Meadow, Church Stretton, will dress up as pupils.

Youngsters in Llangedwyn Primary School in Powys will also attempt to cover their playground with coins.
