Pictures from the Past – October 14, 2011
Friday 14th October 2011, 9:13AM BST.
Happy birthday today to the Jane Dyas store in The Square, Shrewsbury, which is exactly 120 years old, having opened on October 10, 1891, when the first day’s takings were £13, which might have been quite good for the time. The shop, which changed its name to Jane Dyas from Dyas Bros about eight years ago, is a fashion and shoe specialist and has been in the same premises and in the same family ever since it opened. Proprietor Andrew Dyas, who loaned us this photo, thought the picture might be from about 1945. We think it may be rather earlier – the 1920s perhaps. Note the horse glimpsed on the extreme left.

Is the Coalbrookdale pic really from 1962 ..

I don’t remember the cover over the furnace in the late 60s when my school mates and I played in the museum area and climbed all over it after we came out of the Cokehearth school. (till we met out mum/dads from the appropriate clock-out exit of the ‘Dale works.
Maybe there was one – I’m not old enough to remember the Dale in 62.
