Pictures from the Past – Week ending September 9

Friday 9th September 2011, 9:13AM BST.

Here’s GKN Sankey’s Castle Works Band as seen in a photo taken at a works football match at Sankey’s stadium in Hadley in about 1960. Hadley Junction signal box and the Sankey’s factory are in the background. The photo was e-mailed in by band member Malcolm Westbrook, who says the band folded in 1962. He names them as, back, from left: Jack Irmstone, Brian Jones, Malcolm Westbrook, Charlie Morgan, ‘a player from the RAF’, Walter Imeson and Arthur Lowe. Front row: Jock Tennant, Eldred Mills, Gal Mills, Fred Coleman, Jack Alison, and unknown. Standing extreme right is Jack Turner. The photo was taken by George Brittain.

A round-up of this week’s Shropshire Star nostalgia pictures.
