From the bare appearance of the trees, this photo showing “Mere Side, Ellesmere” was taken in the winter or early spring. And, judging from the vehicles, it was taken in the 1930s. This postcard was franked on June 21, 1940. The message is in a childlike hand and reads: “Dear Auntie, I arrived here O.K. Grandma looks a lot better. Terence was glad to see me. They met me at the station. The train was very late. Joan. xxx.” It was posted to Mrs Thomas, Trefnanney Bank, Sarnau, Llanymynech. Picture courtesy of Mrs Diana Humphreys, of Maesbrook, near Oswestry.
