Pictures from the past – May 12, 2011

Friday 13th May 2011, 11:31AM BST.

Here are some folk who were at a dance in the canteen at Iscoyd Park camp, near Whitchurch, in 1946 or 1947, at a time when it was a hospital for Poles. From left are Eddie Shimshak (this is phonetic, actual spelling unknown) who lived in Whitchurch and later changed his name to Eddie Dale; second from left (in tie and patterned waistcoat and dark jacket) is Toni Ostrowski; and third from left, centre, is Vera Williams of Whitchurch, who later married Toni. This picture was loaned by Vera, of Wellington, who served in the ATS during the war and met her Polish husband Toni while he was at Iscoyd Park camp. They married in December 1947.
