Pictures from the Past – May 6, 2011

"Shrewsbury, Boat House Inn" is the original caption for this postcard which has an Elizabeth II stamp on it. However, the view is clearly a lot older than the reign of our present Queen. Maybe around 1912 would be not far off the actual date. Incidentally, if you look closely you can see signs saying "Boat House Inn Refreshments" and "Boat House Inn" on the left. The picture comes from Mrs Diana Humphreys, of Maesbrook, near Oswestry.

Here's one for old car enthusiasts, a fine study of a real classic which, if we knew what it was, we'd tell you  but then you know anyway, don't you? What we're really after though is identifying the location. This picture, which looks like it is from the 1950s, was in one of two albums picked up by Bill Kerswell, who lives near Church Stretton, at a sale in Bishop's Castle, and features a Shropshire family with connections to various places including Dawley and Pontesbury. This spot looks out in the country. But where?
