Pictures from the Past – April 22

Who are these ladies dancing the night away about 45 years ago? This photo was loaned to us by Dennis Machin, of Manor Gardens, Dawley, and comes from one of his albums, although he has no information about it. But he and his late wife used to live in Victoria Road, Madeley, until they were compulsorily purchased in 1967, so it's possibly an event in Madeley, maybe at the Anstice Hall in the 1960s - but that is just speculation.

Here's another photo from the album of 81-year-old Mr Dennis Machin, of Manor Gardens, Dawley. "That's just this side of Cressage Bridge. It's all the members of Leighton Salmon and Coarse Fishing Society before we make the draw for the casts." Mr Machin says the photo dates from at least 40 years ago. He is front, towards the right, carrying some sort of bag with his left hand. Among those he can name are, with a whistle in his mouth and with his arm raised, Bill Roe, and the other person with his arm raised is Billy Norry.
