Today we celebrate some football heroes – this is the successful Wellington Ivanhoe team of the early 1900s. Look closely at them and you can well imagine what great players they were who really made a name for themselves with their exploits on the field. The trophy is believed to be the Ben Bourne Cup named after the donor, who was landlord of the Victoria Vaults, Oakengates. It was apparently played for on Boxing Day morning on the Pat Collins funfair field, Oakengates. Centre, front, with the trophy, is Dixon Davies.
