Russell says: "It's steam shunting locomotive Hornet at work at Ifton Colliery, St Martins, shortly before the mine closed in 1968. "Of interest is the tower-like building in the background. What was its purpose?"

It's fair to say that you don't see many post offices like this any more. This is the village post office at Adderley, near Market Drayton, as seen in June 1972. The accompanying story with this picture said: "Villagers in Adderley have decided to fight Post Office proposals to close their sub post office. "The parish meeting, attended by 40 people, unanimously agreed last night to fight the closure. The decision to shut the post office came when Mr and Mrs Frank Warburton decided to sell the Old Hall filling station. Mrs Mary Warburton had been sub postmistress for 22 years. The filling station's new owners do not want the post office business." If you wonder what happened, the little post office on this site must have closed either then or later, but Adderley did still have a post office until two years ago.
