This is the Donnington Pigeon Club prize-giving and the date on the back of the print is given as November 30, 1962. Mr John Meredith, of Donnington, who loaned us this photo – which belonged to his late uncle Bill Meredith – says the club used to meet at the Bell Inn, Donnington, although he doesn’t think the picture was taken there. On the left is Michael Beddoes, of St Georges, and next is Clive Hall, of St Georges, and then Mrs Stretton, of The Humbers, Donnington. Next along, we’ve got down as John Hicks, from Donnington – but we think we’ve taken that down wrong as it actually looks like the then Wrekin MP Bill Yates. Then comes Abe Wagg, from The Granville there were houses up there then, says Mr Meredith.

The woman seated, in white, he thinks is Brenda Stretton, daughter of Mrs Stretton. Front right, seated, face in profile, is Tommy Smith, president of the club, and seated next to him with a tie is Wally Brothwood. Far right, with head obscured, is John Meredith’s father, Edgar Meredith, known as Ted Meredith. Standing, presenting the trophy, he thinks is Mr Hicks (this must be the right chap, then), and standing in the window is a dentist, although he doesn’t know the person next to him, left.
