Nostalgia pictures, week ending November 20

As you can see, this old postcard carries the caption "Creamore Road, Wem". It was printed by Mrs T Strong, of High Street, Wem, and, although undated, will be from about 100 years ago. What's the chap with the barrow doing? We'll probably never know. The colour will be false colour applied to a black and white photograph. The picture was loaned to us by Mrs Diana Humphreys, of Maesbrook.

Mining on the moon? Not exactly - it's in Shropshire. Aidan Garvey e-mailed us this photo telling us: "I came across this old photo of the opencast coal site at Lawley. I believe it was taken just behind Lawley Garage. My late father Patsy Garvey, as he was known, was general foreman on the site at the time and Mr Pearce was an engineer. They left the coal site together and started the civil engineering company C J Pearce & Co Ltd. I believe the driver was Fred Poole, who lived in Horsehay." Wording on the back of the print includes "23/3 46", which would seem to point to the date of this photo being March 1946.
