Our Saturday feature on the centenary of the opening of Madeley’s old Parkhurst cinema has got readers thinking about other long-lost county picture houses. This image of Newport Market Hall was loaned by Bob Paddock, of Donnington, Telford. He says from 1913 until June 1962 the building in Stafford Street housed a cinema known as The Picture House, which ran for 49 years and never closed. The last film shown was Rock Hudson and Doris Day in Lover Come Back. The cinema closed on Saturday, June 30, 1962, he says. This picture is undated but one of the films billed is Johnny Angel, starring George Raft and Claire Trevor, released in 1945.
