We're not intending to make a habit of this, but here's another "birthday" picture for the benefit of Dereck Ashley, who is 79 today. It was loaned by Terry Humphries, of Leegomery, and shows one of the fleet of Ashley's Coaches, of Chapel Street, Dawley, parked in the Lord Hill car park in the 1970s. Terry says this bus was mainly used on the run to Sankey's at Hadley and was parked at the Lord Hill because Chapel Street was so narrow. Terry said Dereck superseded his parents Jack and Kate Ashley in running the firm. "When Dereck took over, this was one of his coaches in the fleet  the older coaches were his father's." He identified it as a Bedford SB duple-bodied coach. Ashley's were eventually bought out by Elcock's.
