Pictures from the Past – Week ending September 18

Here's a view of up-to-date farming methods nearly 60 years ago. This picture, loaned by Ken Griffiths of Dawley, was taken in a field opposite Stirchley Hall Farm, Stirchley, in 1951. Mr Griffiths is driving the tractor. Sitting on the mudguard is Stephen Ward, the farmer's son, and sitting on the binder is Harry Davies. The tractor is a Standard Fordson, says Mr Griffiths. Hinkshay is in the background.

Have a close look at this photo if you worked at Donnington depot in the 1960s, as you might see people you recognise. This photo was bought in by John Meredith of Donnington, but belonged to his late uncle, Bill Meredith of St Georges. Bill used to work at the depot, and also at C&W Walker at Donnington. Unfortunately we don't know the occasion which prompted this photo.
